In first place and a huge congratulations goes to Mark Smith of Cannock with GB18Z26817, recording a velocity of 1335.19 ypm and picking up a very nice £1000 prize money on top of his £459 pool money. Mark is often up at the front of the pack and knocking at the door and this time went that step further. 817 is bred from an exceptional line of pigeons being through “Harry’s Jewel’” (Jan Hooymans “Harry”’ x “Chanel No 5″’ Pieter Veenstra). Crossed onto the world famous ‘’Golden Gabby’’ of M&D Evans so a real concentration of Vandenabeele blood with a touch of Veenstra. “Harry” (above) of Jan Hooymans, whose blood runs through Mark’s winner, sadly passed away recently due to cancer after Jan done all he could do for his ‘special one’.

Second place went to Smith and Moss of Anfield Plain, County Durham. Their first bird NEHU X1919 going over the pads and recording a velocity of 1334.47 ypm. The partnership entered two birds into the One Loft, both of which still remain. A great team performance was had as their other bird finished 18th. Their first bird picked them up £250 in prize money. Both birds were bred by Smith & Moss’s very good friend Paul Stobbs, with a touch of the late UNC legend Dennis Blakey in there too.
