Tuesday 28th August 2018 – Brawby Grange: 162 miles, 1022 yards

Jeremy was on site early, waiting for the cloud cover to disperse sufficiently to liberate.

830 birds were liberated at 8:40am into broken cloud and sunshine, and cleared well on line.

The first birds began arriving back at 1:12pm, and 250 were back within the next half an hour. The top 10 result is below; click on the image for the full result.

First place to SU18 379 Blues Brothers at 1049.96 ypm, winning a tidy £3,000 in winnings plus £207 in pool money. There’s not much more to say about this pigeon as it was covered in Hot Spot 3, where incredibly it finished 3rd! Showing superb form it went better again. The youngster’s father originates through Gibb & Byrne who amazingly also had a hand to play in 2nd place.

Anyone who knows their stuff knows that Gibb & Byrne have the crème de la crème of the most cutting edge winning lines, and go to as close to the tree as possible, irrespective of cost – a big well done to them. A good number of fanciers are quite literally smashing the federation up in their domestic racing with blood obtained from this partnership.

In second place was Paul Bamford with WHU18T 00125 at 1049.88 ypm, winning £250. Another fancier showing great form, finishing 4th in the last hot spot, the father to this pigeon is “The Special One” coming from… you guessed it, Gibb & Byrne! Again it’s a Dirk Van Den Bulck blooded bird. This cock was paired onto one of Paul’s super hens who is a granddaughter to Leo Heremans “Jackpot”. Paul jokes that he is convinced that all the winning genes came from the dam’s side and not the sire’s.

Third were Kelly Bros & Porter Bros with GB18Z 65743 at 1049.78 ypm, winning £200.

Fourth were Costa Del Lofts with GB18Z 21204 at 1049.71 ypm, winning £150. Costa Del Lofts is a syndicate made up of the Silvester family. Phil Silvester told us he bought some birds from Peter Fox (Syndicate Lofts) in 2015, which have all gone on to breed winners. Their 4th placed bird was from a son of Witpen Drum x Sister Charlene. On the Dam’s side she was bought from a German based auction in Blackpool, direct from Karl Heinz, and has bred winners with three different cocks now.

In fifth place were Mr & Mrs Morton with GB18V 29031 at 1049.62 ypm, winning £75 prize money and very nice pool payback of £1,368 for putting faith in their youngster. Mr & Mrs Morton gave us some brief details on their bird, saying it is a Lambrecht x Vandenabeele. The sire of the youngster has already produced many top pigeons in the RPRA one loft races.
